The Devil went down to Georgetown Comments

If it were a song it would be called, "The Devil Went Down to Georgetown." But this isn't a song - it's reality. Kathleen Sebelius, who has openly dissented from the teaching of the Church and drawn the ire of so many Catholics and other Christians, has been invited to speak at an awards ceremony at the supposedly Catholic Georgetown University in Washington DC. How dare you criticize someone for how they act in relation to their religious beliefs! You don't know her life, you don't know her mind. I don't like this one bit.

Nevertheless, she IS a Catholic, she IS our sister in the Lord, she IS a child of God, and how dare we sit here an call another person "the Devil."
Well done! The author has managed to demonstrate a need for repentence equal to that of her subject. Unless, of course, the admnitions against judgementalism that came from the lips of Christ himself don't apply to US, for some reason.
Is it not possible for the authors who appear on this vital and much needed online site to make their cases and state their objections without also villifying the very people that we, the followers of Christ, ought most to pray for instead? Is it somehow now acceptable for Catholic writers and those who publish them to engage in the same sort of sensationalism and jingoism that so many of us come here to get away from in the secular world?
Disappointing- because the disparaging tone made whatever real issues the author may have with her subject secondary to her own opinion, and through the rhetoric and namecalling, Jesus was nowhere to be seen.

Does it sadden anyone else that we would paint another human being as the Devil? I understand that Katherine Sebelius doesn't hold to the Catholic teaching in several areas, but she is a sister in Christ to each of us. Calling her the Devil paints her out to be the enemy where in reality she is likely a struggling, confused sinner in need of prayer, mercy and compassion.

I've noticed more and more of the "Us vs Them" mentality on Catholic.org. It makes me wonder what happened to Love, Hope and Charity? Let us each look towards are own sinful selves and recognize our need for our saviour. Let us contemplate a crucifix and realize that Christ gave his life for Katherine Sebelius and will love her with an everlasting love that in no way possible can she or anyone else break. Then perhaps the articles will better reflect love and compassion towards those the website seems to have deemed as "enemies"...

I know the cafeteria liberal Catholics are going to go wild on this story so save your breath and don't. We already know your talking points and you are wrong. This is like the head of the NRA being invited to talk at a PETA convention. We get it, you think some of the truths of the church are out of date, but I've got news for you, you are no smarter that the people during Jesus' time and the problems are exactly the same. Truth remains truth and that does not change. If it is change you want, there are plenty of other religions that will accommodate you. Why do you persist on trying to change something that can not and should not change. This woman is a disgrace and so is Georgetown.

When is name calling and being judgemental of someones faith the way that Catholics should act? This article is an insult to Catholics. "much the same way Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius claims to be Catholic"....really? Do you doubt anyone that does not follow the church's letter to a t? And then to call the person "the devil". Are we children now? If you disagree, then disagree....civilly. No name calling, no judgement of faith. John 8:7. Remember it next time you are quick to judge or call names.

As many others "catholic" Colleges, Georgetown University is anything but Catholic.
What we have to do is to send an E-mail to the President of such an "Anti-catholic Catholic" College in order to protest for such an announcement.
