Well, well I see our happy Marxists friends criticizing the Catholic Church for having the audacity to demand their Right to Free Speech and Free Exercise of Religion. But I can understand where they are coming from. Followers of Karl Marx and Saul Alinsky hate Religion especially the Catholic Religion because it is diametrically opposed to Marxism. Free Speech and Freedom to Exercise Religion of Choice is also diametrically opposed to Marxist Despotism. I just wanted to say hi and how are you.

Until the Catholic Church at all levels recognizes that the Democratic Party stands for the "Gospel of Robin Hood" and not the "Gospel of Jesus Christ", Catholics will continue to vote for Obama in the misguided belief that the Democrats are concerned about the poor and that this is in accord with the Gospel as Jesus teaches. However, Jesus didn't say to take someone else's money and give it to the poor, yet that is what the Democrats espouse, groups like the Matthew 25 organization stand for, and many Catholics themselves believe is looking out for the poor - with the misguided guidance of Catholic leadership for generations. Taking money from someone else and giving it to the poor hardly qualifies as following the Gospel!!!!

The simple truth is that the political system is designed to accommodate those in power and not the electorate. The vote is a joke. In truth politicans think that the electorate is also a joke.I doubt that the votes is even counted properly anymore. Partisan politics is religion in this country. Democrats will vote democrat and republicans, republican. It will be a nasty and expensive campaign. Independents and Catholics might have some effect but Obama will win because Romney is a Mormon. Religious intolerance is going to decide the election as well as the Obama worshiping press. The press is going to crucify Romney because of his faith. They did a good job on the 2 Catholics that were competeing in the Primaries. The press actually appears to be very racist because of this strange Obama worship. Most of them seem afraid to critisise him because he is black and charismatic. If Bush pulled half the tricks that this guy has he would be burned at the stake, better yet drawn and quartered. I know this is a negative post but I will still vote because the Holy Catholic Church believes that this is the right thing to do.

I suggest that everyone google: "The Story of Obama: All in The Company" find the pdf and read it. He is a force of evil

Everett Man, Yes I'm aware of the Crusades and Inquisitions. Those were horrible, but they were also hundreds of years ago and have nothing to do with the topics in our country, and more specifically, this topic of contraceptives and abortifacients. The Church does not force anybody to not use contraceptives or not use abortifacients. They have never forced their beliefs on anyone in this country that I can remember. I would be interested to see if you can find one instance. That's not what they're trying to do. As for praying against somebody, I can't speak for everybody, but I pray that Obama has a change of heart on many issues. But I also pray that he doesn't get re-elected because I fundamentally disagree with him on many issues - this doesn't mean I wish evil on him. I would guess that that is what most are praying for.

Emma, As an accountant for private nonpofit social service agencies since 1994, Catholic Charities included, there is nothing I would love better than to see nonprofits able to function with less government funding, but the reality is that, for all the uncertainties associated with government funding, it is still generally more reliable than direct donations from the public. How much medicaid or medicare do you think the Shriner's Hospital has received over the years (I honestly do not know, but probably should research)? When working with Catholic Charities, government funding made up 63% of total operating revenue and direct public support with government support making up almost the total budget of smaller private nonprofit social service agencies. I will not spend a lot of time touting the valuable services that those nonprofit agencies provide (Homeless shelters, food distribution, job search assistance, homeless prevention, etc.) because there are actually those who believe that poverty relief efforts actually perpetuates the probelm, so the value of the services we provide is as much a controversy as the issue of government providing safety net programs. I am merely stating the realities of private nonprofit social service agencies (For myself, I believe nonprofit social service agencies like Catholic Charities or Jewish Family Services, and the services they provide, provides light in a very dark world). I agree with everything you advocate, but many Christians seem to have a problem simply engaging in discussions in a civil manner (Some quite hateful, actually), let alone "give till it hurts". For all of my rambling here, I really have no answers for this one; only a picture of the realities that I have faced in 18 years private nonprofit social service agency experience.

Aussie you hit the nail on the head. Many Catholics are either ignorant of their history or refuse to recognize it. Mike says that the Catholic Church does not force its beliefs on non Catholics. Mike, Ever hear of the Crusades or the Spanish Inquisition? Was the discovery the Americas simply all about establishing trade and new natural resources? Were Native Americans really destroyed simply because they were sitting on the gold and not that they did not convert to Catholicism/ Christianity? Incred-a-BULL. (yes I know how to spell incredible).... "Catholics are fighting for their religious freedom, identity, and the conscience of a nation." Catholics, how do you fight for something you do not understand? How is it that you do not know the Catholic Church has been evangelical since its inception? Fighting for... the conscience of a nation.. sounds pretty evangelical to me. Seems to me you have to understand where you have been before you can know where you are going... Lastly, someone mentioned about praying against President Obama.. Really how Christian or Catholic is it to pray AGAINST another human? That is simply disgusting. So much for "Love others as you love yourself" or do unto others as you would do unto yourself. Incredible!!

IMHO, the Catholic Church must go back to funding its charitable organizations without the use of government funds. At one time, when GW Bush first started his funding for "Faith Based Charitable Organizations", the Catholic Church had stated that it would not participate or accept government funds precisely because it would then be called upon to function within government guidelines. So, how did this come about? Shriner's Hospitals operated for years on donations and has only recently accepted payment from insurance plans. If the Church is defeated, perhaps its time that it returned to operating once again without use of tax money. Are the Catholic People willing to open their wallets at the same time as they open their mouths and support their Church's Teachings? How many that scream and shout open their wallets and "give til it hurts?" How many will forgoe their $4 cup of coffee and $2 donut every morning and give that money to the cause? How many will give up an hour or two every week in volunteer efforts to help those in our society who are marginalized and hurting and in need? That's what I would like to see. The Body of Christ moving out into the world as witness!! We've become too complacant and too comfortable in our own lifestyles. We're, as a group, extremely motivated to spew out verbiage, but when it comes to putting it into practice, unfortunately, we fall short on many levels. It needs to be taken out into the community and acted on, daily, before anyone will take anything we say seriously. Work. Pray. Love.

    Augustine,

Thank you very much for the information. I had forgotten about those cases. Fair enough. I still hold to Boies' point, however, that this is a labor law issue rather than a civil rights issue. It's not persuasive to me to compare a settled case like Hosanna-Tabor with this one and I'm not sure why it would be persuasive to you.

If Catholic institutions take money from the Federal Government money that the government collects in the form of taxes from all Americans of all faiths or creeds then they must follow Federal Laws period !If the Church does not like it then it should just refuse the money ,end of problem! CA .I bet most Catholics think mormons are just one of many Christian Prostestant Churchs they do'nt have a clue what nonsense the mormons teach. .AusseJoe, right on !!!
