Wrongful Birth Verdict Signals Growth of the Culture of Death, Threatens the Disabled Comments

The mother and father claimed in their lawsuit that if they knew that Kalanit had an extra 21st chromosome they would have had her killed by abortion. Only, they used the sterile term taken from contemporary Orwellian newspeak, they said they would have "terminated the pregnancy". This verdict in Oregon is about selectively killing disabled children. It is another form of feticide. It takes the evil a step further by insisting that medical ... Continue Reading

    Deacon Fournier,

It may have been done in the past but, could this willful slaughter of disabled children be challenged by the ADA(American's with Disability Act). It seems since the disabled are specifically being targeted for death it would be a violation.

Where the bible says of the manner that the woman (read parents) get to salvation (n Christ) by child bearing meaning rearing, that which man calls "punishment" for the disobedience & try to run away from it through the word Abortion etc, but in truth is the rectification from sin, where the child born may or may not be normal, wherein the responsibilities & the difficulties(one's cross) arising out of raising the child, goes a long way to a fulfillment into the salvation of the parents, to life, with today's unbelieving world even Christians forget or do not understand that the purpose of this life is to salvation, to which the ways of the present government & its courts, devoid of Spiritual understandings are of a least help, even against.

To say our country needs Prayer and a lot of work by people who Respect all life (educating others), is a giant understatement.

I have worked with many disabled children of all ages for years. Each one of them is a creature of God and has their own unique and very special personality even those who will never be able to be completely independent as adults. Not all children with Down Syndrome have retardation. Some can have normal or above average intelligence. Many of them are quite capable individuals who grow up to be able to work and even live independently. Shame on this lawyer and family. Even if the family says they still love their child, they are only taking this law suit to court for money.

This article saddens me. My younger brother had down syndrome and when my mother found this out, she was advised to abort him. She didn't do this. My brother was born into this world perfect, maybe not the way "normal" people look, but he was made the way God intended him to be. People with disablitlies maybe slow but their just appreciating the world in a different way. They're enjoying the world through a different way. Why would want to abort your child? They are a blessing.

Thank you for bringing attention to Down syndrome. As a father of a child with DS and an advocate for raising awareness, I must correct something in the article. It is called Down Syndrome. Not Down's nor is it Downs as shown in the caption of the cute little girl.

    Thank you!

Thank you for this true and spot-on article. I wonder if those parents will still want to murder their daughter when she is 12 years old?

As a disabled individual, this article was very painful to read. It tells me that there are many out there who do not value my life. There are those who believe people like me should never have been born. They think my disability is a far worse thing than any good I could ever bring into this world. They couldn't be more wrong! How terribly sad that they are making such wrong judgments on the quality of life of disabled people.
