US Senate Denies Free Exercise of Religion, Tables the Blunt Amendment Comments

In the history of the United States of America, from the beginning, Catholic Hospitals existed to care for the sick. The Catholic Church is currently one of the very largest health care providers in the United States of America. If this Administration persists in its iron handed effort to compel the Church to bend the knee to a new Caesar, that service to the Nation is placed in jeopardy. It appears that the administration wants to remove ... Continue Reading

Several weeks ago, and in response to the HHS ruling, our bishops through the priests called us to prayer and fasting so that we would be able to combat this terrible ruling. Doesn't it make sense to focus on this primarily? Through prayer and fasting, we offer everything to God. Allow him to work on it. And in the process He will undoubtedly work on us as well. We should ask him for the grace to discern and make good decisions and for a clear vision of right and wrong. I pray that God will enable all of us to discern which candidate running for the office of the president would be best and that He place His Hand and protection upon that person. It also seems to me that as Catholics we should look at those senatorial races and or house or representative races which may open in the areas where we live. We should all educate ourselves on who the best candidate is in these races. Obviously we owe it to ourselves, our families and our country.(See my post below) With all of the above said, I never thought that a candidate who had little regard for the rights of the unborn was suited to lead our country. I am even more convinced of it today!

The OBAMA administration is doing as what HE said HE WOULD do and doing so w.his radical progs anti God and Church w.the ASSISTANCE in the U S SENATE . They are a scandal as to tabeling the Freedom Of Religion Rights. THIS is how 'socialists' work! The FIRST thing of import to the peoples they REMOVE and make their laws. THUS GOD and THE CHURCH is the first to GO, THEY must dismiss HIM and HIS CHURCHS to a level that has NO SAY in the frameworks of a MORAL SOCIETY. In socialism their are no MORALS. Its 'do as one you please'. The FALL of this nation will come from WITHIN as we are witnessing now , and all will share in the same misery index. EXCEPT of course the ELITISTS.....THE TOP DOG 'SOCIALISTS". Thus they must be defeated at any and all costs. They have NO desire for a sane and moral society. THEY are EVIL straight from hell, and we best be ready to face them squarely in the face. AND call them exactly what they are!

David, the federal money is from Medicaid and Medicare and is a kind of insurance used to help pay bills for serious things for people who are actually sick. Cancer, surgery, x-rays, even more common things like the flu or an infection. And let's not forget that Catholic hospitals do not refuse people just because they cannot afford to pay. Yes, they do get a bill in the mail if they don't have insurance, but I know people who went back again and get more treatment even though they didn't pay off the bill for the first treatment. Some pay $10 a month and others can't pay anything. Other hospitals would refuse patients who couldn't pay. Or they don't accept new patients so you have to be on their list to even see a doctor. Catholic hospitals do tend to have long waiting lines, but at least you get seen even if you have to wait for several hours.

There are much better treatments for acne over birth control pills... what do they give boys with serious acne? Do they give boys a birth control pill? Of course not! Why not actually treat it rather than give a young woman a bunch of hormones to take every day? As for the menstrual cramps, irregular periods, etc., those are signs of a more serious health problem. A pill only masks the symptoms but does not solve the actual problem. And the problem only comes back to haunt her years down the road because it was never treated. It's no coincidence that the rates of cancer have increased as it has become popular for doctors to give girls and women the pill, and for girls and women to ask for it.

The pill has been known to increase things like promiscuity and abortions. Promiscuity is not cost-effective because of STDs... I read somewhere that 2/3 (and in some places as many as 3/4) of sexually active people between the ages of 15 and 24 have or have had some form of sexually transmitted disease. And of course it costs money to treat these diseases, and Catholic hospitals do treat STDs even if they don't agree with the action that led to the disease (promiscuous sex outside of marriage). Abortions also are not cost-effective because they lead to things like depression, increased cancer risk, and future babies being born prematurely so they have to live in the ICU (*very* expensive) for the first month or two of life. Maybe abortions kill off people and the population is lower, but don't forget that people are living longer. There are going to be more retired people than workers because the people who should be in the work force supporting retirement plans and social security will be dead from abortion, and of course aborted people can't work or have kids to become workers. I think this "population control" idea is extremely short-sighted. It would be better to teach people responsible sexuality and to respect themselves and others so they would not need abortions or STD care. Keep the population stable rather than making it rapidly decline.

And for the record, there are faithful Catholic doctors who haven't prescribed the Pill in YEARS and some who have never prescribed it at all!

I have suggested that the Church announce from the pulpits that a vote for Obama is a vote against our own Church. Think about this: Obama and his administration are trying to force Catholic institutions to provide contraceptives etc. And these efforts come during a period when he has to have some sensibility to the “Catholic vote”. Imagine what he will try should he be reelected and not have to be concerned with what Catholic or any other voters say. Don’t you think he will push for abortion on demand to be part of every health plan? Remember as a state senator he voted against funds designated to provide medical care for infants who survived an abortion attempt. If you want to forget all his other politics, or even if you like his other agendas, can you really consider yourself a Catholic Christian by voting for such an anti-Life president? You'd be enabling abortions, wouldn’t you? Can you live with that on your conscience? Think about it. Even if this HHS mandate is overturned in the courts (and I pray it will be) Obama has proven he can not be trusted with life issues. He has lied to us before; he'll do so again.

vance, did you read the actual amendment? The senate could have very simply proposed a bill that had similar language exempting religious institutions from the requirement to provide "essential health benefits" and "preventative services" as they did for other religious groups. But instead they proposed an amendment that is half diatribe and the remainder is a train wreck. It basically set the stage for any one, based on whatever moral conviction they may hold, cannot only be forced to provide whatever medical service they deem offensive, but individuals could compel their employers to cease offering certain services. The amendment applied to consumers as well as employers. It opened up a pandora's box that went way off the reservation for the issue at hand. That darn bill was never going to pass. It was nothing more than a darn gimmick to play politics with no real change of actually becoming law. And we wonder why these guys have a 9% approval rating. I think what HHS has done with the support of the Obama administration is terrible. This madate will be struck down in the courts. But that amendment was not the answer, and they know it. When I blubber vance, it costs you and I nothing but time. When our politicians advance crappy bills like this, I'm sure this blubbering costs us a few million easy, if not more.

I was curious to see a roll call regarding how Catholic United States Senators voted. Below is a link to another catholic website showing exactly that. It looks to me as though the great majority of Catholic Democrat Senators voted along party lines rather than to back the bishops and catholic teaching. This is pretty amazing, don't you think? Like many of you, I think this needs to be out there for all to see.

The top ten problems in the world are poverty.

This is a wedge issue designed to undermine the affordable health care act. A sinister attempt to deny medical coverage to those who can't afford it.

When you join this fight whose agenda are you serving? I would bet they work on K Street and they don't work for a church.

Brian D: The Church has NOT been lax. At least not in my Church. It is the Catholics who CHOOSE not to obey the Church. God bless
