US Senate Denies Free Exercise of Religion, Tables the Blunt Amendment Comments

In the history of the United States of America, from the beginning, Catholic Hospitals existed to care for the sick. The Catholic Church is currently one of the very largest health care providers in the United States of America. If this Administration persists in its iron handed effort to compel the Church to bend the knee to a new Caesar, that service to the Nation is placed in jeopardy. It appears that the administration wants to remove ... Continue Reading

I think that until we as a Church do a serious examination of conscience and understand our role in how we got here, we will not turn the tide. I don't know what I find more tragic, that the government would take such a bold action against faith, or that our lack of living it probably set the stage for it. While the government has no right to take the action it has, if the statitics about Catholic's who contracept is true, then they merely affirmed what the "faithful" are teaching society. By our own actions we have created scandal of epic proportions. Do we honestly think we can live no differently than the pagans and not expect to be called on it? The fight agains the government, Catholic politicians etc is all well and good, but if we as the Catholic faithful don't live these teachings, then this will be nothing more than a good episode of law and order. I appreciate that Cardinal Dolan is "fighting mad." I just wish some of that anger was at the US church for dropping the ball so badly on this. I find it somewhat embarassing that it took an action of Caesar to get us to wake up about these teachings. I hope the moment isn't limited to politics and the court room.

Until the Catholic bishops are willing to speak out about the dissidents in the Church who are supporting the President, the voice of the faithful will not be heard. The bishops also need to speak out about the "Catholic" Vice President, the "Catholic" Secretary of HHS, and the "Catholic" members of Congress who are supporting the President. A Church divided against itself can not stand, and the failure of the bishops to answer "Catholic" dissidents .has confused both the Catholic faithful and the public.

Now is the time to take our voice beyond our own sphere of comfort. We can sit in our coffee shops, at our dinner tables, and on our web-based forums to vent our frustration with like-minded people. But the Bishops, Cardinals, and Pope can not be expected to "fix our problems" for us on their own. We have to show them the support we should be giving them as fellow Catholics by taking a stand and pushing our politicians to be more courageous and stand firm for the intent behind declaring our independance from England. In the slow downward spiral this country has been on, we have gotten to the point that we expect the government to do everything for us, to make the rights and wrongs clear for us. We have forgotten that the government is here to serve us and we are supposed show the government what it is to do. We need to stand up and make sure our Senators and Congressmen know what their jobs are and protecting our religious freedom should be one of the primary concerns! Yes, prayer and fasting are incredibly important and powerful in combating evil and should not be forgotten. But, in the immortal words of the farmer to the priest "some things require prayer and some things require **natural fertilizers**."

I am not Catholic, but work at a Catholic Hospital. I back the Catholic Church 200% on their stance against the government. Keep up your fight and you may find a new convert!!!

I see this as representative of a lack of faith. It reminds me of the time when Jesus sent out His disciples to "cast out demons" and they couldn't do it. "Why do you call me Lord, Lord and do not do what I say?" "Tell the mountain to move, and it will move!" But, do we honestly wholeheartedly believe in the Power of God? "If" we all did, this would be a non-issue. If we believe that God can do all things, then why are we fretting? Why aren't we praying? Praying wholeheartely in BELIEF in the Power of God? Why worry about any of this? We worry, and we take our eyes and hearts and our beliefs away from the Power of God. No wonder the tide is turning against us, we don't believe what our mouths say.

Why ? Because he can - or at least he thinks he can. Obama reminds me of a certain fallen angel who thought he could become God without having anything to do with God. History proves it did`nt go so well. Pray to St. Michael the Glorious One - the defender of the Truth and ours as well !!!

Can't hospitals get around this by refusing services that are not medically vital? Limit services to health care treatment and deny any service that is not vital to keeping a person alive or healthy.

    Bad BET
I think these lockstep liberal Democratic Catholic politicians are betting that they will be in office until they are all filthy rich with huge pensions and government benefits and when they die they will receive a Catholic burial and all their sickening voting records will be blessed away by the ever forgiving hand of God through the Church they have persecuted. Excuse me but….“What does it profit a man if gain the whole world but….”

Having a baby seems such a natural, obvious, and rather unspectacular event. But for those who are deeply aware that we are living on a planet that is being prepared for total destruction, in a time that can be sure only of the past and the present but not of the future, and in a place that is filled with pictures of death, giving life to a new human being becomes an act of resistance. Bringing into the world a little child totally dependent on the care of others and leading it gradually to maturity is true defiance of the power of death and darkness. It is saying loudly: "For us Life is stronger than death. Love is stronger than fear. Hope is stronger than despair!"
