JeanCatherine: Nevermind. I should have read the article first. God bless.
Mark,
God love you son. You are not listening. There is no question but we are in for a fight to save not only our Religious Liberty but also to prevent our nation from becoming another chapter in the book of failed Marxists regimes and the misery which is always a part of such a would be theocracy. Any serious observer of history and power politics has to see that the current administration which is the culmination of years of liberal indoctrination in our universities and government public education along with progressive socialists in control of the media is determined to reinvent America.
The beast of bureaucracy took a long time to become visible to the general population. Behind the curtain of compromise used for cover, as one after another of our fundamental founding values, guiding religious precepts, and God given rights were legally and legislatively being stretched often in the mane of “Christian” compassion to the limit of reason, the masters of deceit have constructed for a majority of the citizens a government grown economic dependency as well as a common code of conscience steeped in social justice swill and disguised as a benevolent utopian bureaucracy.
There have been many warning signs within our society in the past 40 to 50 years and alarms sounded by those wise enough to notice the first indications of the repetition of European political history in our own government. Not enough of us were willing to believe it could actually be happening and we thought with the defeat of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and their anti-religion regimes which had enveloped much of Europe the world was finished with Fascism and Communism. Wrong! Evil never sleeps.
The disposed despots and their theocracy, beaten by armed force, vowed to rise and conquer us from within and we would “fall like over ripened fruit”. Their labors up to now have provided them much fruit to harvest. We are now out of time and with this administrations very obvious “crisis” creation followed by a rush to take CONTROL of banks, business, and various industries while its lock step congress illegally and unethically manufactures tons of legislation without revealing the hundreds of new agencies and regulations established within them which are destroying our economy and threatening our lives we can not pretend any longer our faith and freedoms are not in jeopardy.
We live in a free country and if there are aspects of the new laws that violate our sensibilities as Catholics we should speak out. On this issue we are being heard and the ball is moving forward. There are other violations of natural and moral law that are currently not being addressed by our government and rEligious leaders and that's the topic of immigration. The vast majority of those tossed out of this country, detained by ICE, and targeted by unjust lcal immigration laws are of Latino descent the overwhelming majority of whom are Catholics. Where is that voice in our Catholic community. Who from our organization speaks out on a national level to those violations of natural law. Where are Catholic leaders when immigrant Catholic families are torn apart by the evils of deportation Seems to me that the mormon church has done more to fight these immoral policies than we have for our fellow Catholics This was a great article addressing important issues that are being handled by the Obama administration with respect to healthcare legislation but is nevertheless being beaten to death by conservative pundits in trying to paint Obama as some sort of socialist.
I am proud to be Catholic but of I want to take in right wing propaganda I'll watch Fox News.
Rob: Right wing nonsense? I thought you were better than that. God bless.
Well, all I can say is, we deserve this when you consider our past history. Cardinal Cushing of Boston, a good friend of Fr. John Courtney Murray, SJ, asked the Jesuit priest to investigate what the Church's stand should be with the possibility of decriminalizing the sale of contraceptives back in the early 1960s. Murray was chosen to write a response since he was the main expert on the question of religious liberty at Vatican II. He was considered quite a liberal at the time and received much criticism in the Catholic press and from many conservative clergy. Murray's response to the Cardinal was that the Church could certainly accept decriminalization based on, you guessed it, a religious liberty argument that would be spelled out more fully at the Second Vatican Council. Of course, contraception is not a Catholic thing only, but also part of the natural law binding all hearts. St. Paul in Romans states that gentiles, be they ancient or modern have no excuse, for every conscience knows this truth deep down inside. In addition, Murray talked about the notion of private morality vs. public morality. Interesting...sounds like Mario Cuomo's defense of his public abortion stand - I'm personally and privately opposed to the killing of the unborn, but in public, well, I have to represent so many views. This should also remind us of the pro-abortion priest and congressman, Fr. Robert Drinan, who advised the Kennedys on how they could be both privately Catholic and public abortion supporters. It sounds also like Senator Rick Santorum's recent statements...I'm privately opposed to contraception but I support it with my vote and big bucks in public. Can we not see the disastrous consequences of using this "religious liberty" argument which is ultimately based on Liberal and Masonic teaching? The First Amendment was not written by Jesus Christ the King, but by our Masonically influenced Founding Fathers. It is time to take St. Paul's advice and to preach Christ crucified with the power of the Holy Ghost. It is no longer time to argue using the faulty principles of fallen man.
Excellent discussion of positive rights vs. natural [inalienable/God-given] rights. Very informative and on point -- particularly the paragraph ending "Positive law must reflect the Natural Law or it is unjust." Our country is getting in deeper and deeper trouble by the year. Not only do we have this fiscal bomb coming in the 2020s if we fail to incrementally reform the entitlements, our own immorality and "live for today" materialism is going to do us in. And yet, all the promiscuity, ignorance about our own history, and violence and all these new so-called "rights" being “given” [sold] to us by Obama and his sidekicks may be just enough to bribe and hoodwink unwitting Americans into giving up the rights that matter most – freedoms of religion, speech, press, conscience, and things like procedural due process, federalism, and the separation of powers that force the government to be held to account. I don’t agree with Senator Santorum on some fiscal, executive power, & foreign policy things, but rest assured, I agree that America, given its stature in the world, has been under attack by evil spiritual forces for some time. We better shape up before we give up the most essential things that make America what it is.
Excellent article Deacon Keith. Thank you for your courage and conviction.
Given the recent Supreme Court decision you would think the administration would have paused before going this way. It's one thing to have to bear the brunt of all the right wing nonsense, but it's another thing to give them ammunition. They deserve what they get for this. I just hope that the Church takes this as a wake up call and get's serious about teaching this stuff.
Has anyone read the bill??? No, I didn't think so. I am a Catholic and I read it. It does not apply to churches in its ORIGINAL form!! (only to Church Affiliated agencies). Therefore not a second amendment fight. The number of poor helped by the health care bill and this hyperbole spread by the papacy is embarrassing. If this doesn't get posted then the truth must really not be important anymore....
