President Obama at the National Prayer Breakfast. Catholics Won't Get Fooled Again Comments

During the last Presidential campaign many Catholics were deluded by then Senator Barack Obama. His rhetoric uses language which sounds as though he agrees with Catholics on issues such as our obligation to the poor and the needy. His administration has acted in a manner which proves the opposite. The most egregious example is his failure to hear the cry of the children in the womb. Continue Reading

Thank you for a well written article designed to wake people up! I am glad to know my church, the Catholic Churgh, is taking a stand and hopefully will not continue to be silent. We need to share this article with our friends and acquaintances.

Won't get fooled again? How could you not see who he is the first time around? Shame on you for voting for him just because of color! Don't be blinded by smooth talking politicians! Left wing folks are trying to make America soddom and Gamorrah. To turn a blind eye because of appearance or other issue you feel strongly about is baloney! If your Catholic you must vote that way! I'm no saint, oddly enough, I find myself on your website telling you to open your eyes. I came here to help open mine.
Mitt Romney, while good in many areas, was also pro abortion. When judgement day gets here you will have to answer for the way you voted. I suspect the price of gas will not be the issue at hand. Wake up America!

Fools was the appropriate word. Anyone who looked at the situation objectively knew this would happen. How can anyone be surprised. The President and his allies are pro abortion plain and simple and will do nothing that will put roadblocks in their own pathway. Hopefully it is not too late. God Bless the Bishops who are now rallying the People of God.

I'm not catholic but I do believe President Obama is totally wrong on this and every one who believes in God needs to stand up for Freedom of Religion. Your article I loved. I hope all people of faith vote for God this coming election. I am.

Thank you for another great article Deacon Keith! President Obama and HHS Sebelius do indeed need our prayers. And they also need to be voted out of office. And when obama is voted out of office in November, and the democrat majority in the Senate is gone, I will slide across my floor on my knees screaming like Roger Daltrey at the end of "We Won't be Fooled Again"......Yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!

(hopefully the new boss won't be the same as the old boss though...: )

" Why do you call me LORD, LORD, and not do the things that I say". " A good tree cannot bear bad fruit and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit, you shall know them by their fruits", Jesus said.."Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?" asked our Lord Jesus when in the name of God he(Paul) was murdering the Church. Lord Jesus, May our President Obama have a Saul of Tarsus moment, come to repentance and protect the innocent babies in the womb. " For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and on the whole world."

President Obama's words were like the Klu Klux Klan coming out and saying all people are created equal before they put their hoods on. We must stay vigilant and speak up to all people we meet. It is the one on one with your neighbor, your cousin, mother, father, son and daughters that will make a difference.

Deacon Fournier, you say 'we will not be fooled again' but you over estimate the Catholics of this country. They have always voted for the democratic candidate and will do so once again. The Church got in bed with the liberal democratic establishment long ago and now it will reap what it has sown. The Bishops will rant and rave but their credibility has long been tarnished. I am a good Catholic but I no longer look to our Bishops for leadership. They have failed us too many times.

Julie, that really is a point that we need to address. I don't believe Catholics were "fooled", as his record on abortion is very clear and was one of the points used to hammer him during the election. They chose to freely ignore it. There is a price to pay for that compromise and now we are dealing with the consequences.

Thank you for your insightful article, deacon! You write well. As Catholics we must use our God given discernment in the exercise of our civic responsibilities. We are all called to not only hear what a political leader says, but also what he does. Words and actions can not and should not be separated. While I respect the office of the president, I have heard enough of this president's rhetoric and observed enough of his actions as well as those of his administration to realize that he doesn't deserve a second term. While I will continue to pray for him as the leader of our country I will urge all members of my family, friends, and associates to vote for the other candidate. It looks as though we have at least three who would do a better job in leading all Americans in these perilous times. Four years of the Obama administration has been too much.

I have been reading Thomas Petrisko's Call of the Ages, and in it I found two references: Mother Teresa of Calcutta's 1994 address to the same body that Obama addressed. You referenced this as well. What a contrast! The second reference is John Paul II's warning to America upon his visit in the early 1990's. Both addressed America's glaring fault with abortion. I would urge all readers of this blog to read both. Then I would suggest that we follow our respective Bishop's urging for prayer and fasting.
