Opinion: Is 'Occupy Wall Street' an opportunity for Christians? Comments
Say what you will about Occupy Wall Street (OWS). Say that it's a communist movement, or that it's financed by the very same establishment it appears to criticize. Say that it's anti-American, anti-freedom, and anti-church. Say that it's filled with anarchists. Say that it's going to be short-lived. But regardless of what critics say, the movement should cause us to stop and think. Continue Reading

Great article. I absolutely agree.
You are being duped - - simply ask any and all OWSers if they believe in God. This is the "other" social justice crowd, not one based in a faith of knowing God and Jesus.
Wow, there are so many problems with this article, it's laughable it was even published. Yes the protestors do make us stop and think, dear God, it's the 1930's all over again, with the same players: the young (useful idiots), the communists, the facists, the anti-capitalists, the marxists, the anarchists, the atheists.... These same groups protested at the lead-up to and during the depression that hit the world in 1929. The results are predictable when these groups get together - Hitler, Stalin, Che, Mao - hundreds of millions MURDERED! Do not be fooled by these groups standing for the "little guy". They just want to take from those who are willing to work and give to those who are not. This is, in a word, EVIL. Check out Ephesians 6: 6-9 (see also: Proverbs 13:4; 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12). The bible tells us there is no reward for those who are not willing to do for themselves. It is not the obligation of those willing to work to provide for others. If they choose to do so this is called charity and is our duty as Christians. There is no right, in America, to an income, to affordable healthcare, to a college education, to a home. These things must be worked for, fought for, and earned; not given - give a man a fish/teach a man to fish and all. It's easy to fall into evils trap isn't it? Oh there was a constitution that guaranteed those items, the Soviet Union's. That ended well didn't it, tens of millions starved or executed?
By the way, did you know these protester are largely being paid? I wonder who is doing that. If they are as many claim, productive members of society, where are they getting a month or more of time off to go camp out in these towns and cities? If they are students complaining about the high cost of education, why are they at Wall St and not at their University protesting?
In the end Catholics, we will be silenced and or rounded up. It has happened before and it will happen again. The only god for these ultra-leftists (this is not mainstream America) is the government. To them, God is a threat. And as we all should have learned, "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me (period, end of story)." As Edmund Burke stated, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." I could go on and on about this article, but it's not worth more of my time...I have to go to work.
In my heart-of-hearts, I firmly believe that this situation is a ruse and the protests will be used by Wall Street and other World Bankers to destroy the dollar and usher in either a North American Currency or a world currency
Thank you for this insightful and timely article! My support for the Occupy Wall Street is based on the moral principles of fairness and equity - and our duty to look out for fellow brothers and sisters. Something is truly amiss when 1% of the population owns so many pieces of the pie. And the bottom 90% are left to squabble over scraps.
Well, gee, if the "populist" sentiment is to not want education and healthcare subject to the "vagaries of an unregulated market" because they are "basic human necessities" (OH, REALLY!) then what about "food?" Isn't food even more of a basic human necessity? What kind of regulation does the "populist" sentiment want there, price controls? THIS IS "socialist" garbage being advocated in this article. It doesn't just "sound socialist" as the article would like to deceptively dissuade the reader from thinking it is, IT IS socialist! I will not make, nor should any Christian think they should make, "common cause" with the socialists running amuck in this OWS movement. The lament in the article is over the ineffectiveness of "bank reform" to date. What bank reform? THERE is but one reform needed, untried as yet, and IT would produce the "dream" sought. It is --- END the Federal Reserve!!!
Sounds like the editor of this article is jumping on the OWS bandwagon....not sure what videos of the protesters you have been watching, but the ones I saw didn't show me that these protesters are very educated, these people are no different then their counterparts in Europe..just that they haven't been as violent as of yet even though there have been some arrests, history has shown what these communists, marxists, etc are all about, just go back and study the French, Mexican revolutions, the Spanish civil war, Cambodia, people like these in the past have been the mortal enemy of the Catholic Church, satan's every devious! I for one am not falling for it, just as I was not one of the 50% of Catholics who fell in love with obama.
Now having said the above, I do believe there is much corruption in our politics and in our economics, but the root of this is the loss of the moral/ethical foundation, something people are not even mentioning, you can pretend that more distribution of income, free education, free healthcare is the fix to all things, but your just deluding yourself, until the judeo/christian ethic is restored I don't see much hope
Wisdom 6:19
And the care of discipline is love: and love is the keeping of her laws: and the keeping of her laws is the firm foundation of incorruption
John Adams
"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other".
Great article here. Interested to see what will happen.
Jesus put the poor first. He also chased the moneylenders from his father's house. The anti-greed and corruption message of Occupy Wall Street challenges us to overcome any prejudices we may have about the "messengers."
