New York Legislature Undermines True Marriage, Family, Society and the Common Good Comments

This issue has been framed as upholding marriage equality. This is not the case since one of the principal purposes of marriage is to bring new life into the world. This cannot happen in same-sex marriage. It is not a civil rights issue, but rather a human rights issue upholding the age-old understanding of marriage.Republicans and Democrats equally share responsibility for this ruinous legislation and we as Catholics should hold all accountable ... The proponents of same sex marriage and indeed NEW YORK LEGISLATORS have redefined marriage in their own terms. But this new definition does not reckon with the DICTIONARY meaning of marriage. They need to produce a new NEW YORK DICTIONARY that will accommodate this new order. Apart from that, they need to contemplate and then answer this simple question: ASSUMING THAT THE WHOLE WORLD ACCEPTS THIS ODD LEGISLATION AND STARTS PRACTICING IT FROM TODAY, HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE ON PLANET EARTH IN 100 YEARS' TIME? This legislation is an outright abuse of USA motto: IN GOD WE TRUST. Freedom of speech and association has been taken to a ridiculous level and must be redefined by the constitution. Otherwise legislators will wake up one day and declare that it is legal to kill children born outside same sex marriage. GOD HELP US!

One of these days..., the judgment of God will descend on us, like on Sodom and Gomorrah. May the Word of God guard our hearts and minds.... Many of the comments on this Article bring the following to mind from the Letter of Jude--which is both sobering and heartening: "Contend for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For admission has been secretly gained by some who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly persons who pervert the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord Jesus Christ....In the last time there will be scoffers, following there own ungodly passions. It is these who set up divisions, worldly people devoid of the Spirit. But you beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God, wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And convince some, who doubt, save some by snatching them out of the fire; on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh." (Jude v.3-4, 17-23) Pray to keep the faith, to be "kept" by God to the end....Amen!

Frank Tomi, where do you stand on artificial contraception? If you are not in lock step with the RC Church on this topic you are completely wrong and you are part of the problem. Have you read the Catechism of the Catholic Church? It is sad that so many Catholics (yes, including some clergy) do not know or understand the Catechism. But I will never leave the RC Church because it's doctrine is protected by the Holy Spirit. All other churches which have broken away have seen a gradual erosion of their doctrines. There are Christian churches marrying same sex couples, promoting artificial contraception, accepting divorce, and they are OK with a "woman's right to choose". Even if we have sad mistaken Catholics within the ranks who think these things are OK, the doctrine is in tact and these things will NEVER be OK per the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Abandoning Christ's Church is not the solution. Catholics need to come home to the only organization on earth whose core principles have been unchanged for 2,000 years. Not one Protestant sect can make that claim.

The New York legislature is so close minded! Can't they understand the exhibitionist needs of the the do-it-in-the-road community? Can't they feel the pain of the S&M community? What about those who prefer pre-pubiscent teens - what about their rights???? How bigoted to not include bigamists and polyamorous relationships!!!! Those in the inter-species small furry animal marriage equality community must be dismayed that they too were not counted worthy -- but their day might come. All Sarcasm aside, 'God save thy people and bless thine inheritance'; help people to truly love one another as you intended, and not to assert their un-natural state as a natural right.

Dan, your post was dead on. There is an ugly truth to all of this that is coveniently swept under the carpet. This is not the end for NY State. Next year the homosexual agenda will push for "transgender rights" and specialized "hate crime laws". Slowly, "improved education" regarding homosexual relationships will be pushed into lower and lower school grades and parents will not be able to "opt out". There have been enough articles on this web site alone giving specific examples of this in states that already have same sex marriage. It could take decades for the full consequences of this to become apparent. One thing is certain: people who ignore the natural moral law eventually destroy themselves because the lifestyles being advocated for with this legislation are detrimental to human beings. No amount of hand wringing, name calling, or misguided "Christian" compassion will change this.

We, the moral segment of the public, need to stop being afraid to stand up to these LGBT aggressors. In many Catholic institutions of learning, there are groups tacitly promoting homosexuality and abortion in the name of "tolerance". My niece attends a Catholic private school where lesbians walk around holding hands and nothing is said to them. They come to school dressed in a boyish fashion. Again, nothing is said. The homosexuals confidently express themselves and such behavior is allowed. We have allowed immorality to thrive in the name of "tolerance". Unlike the passive public, the LGBT people have been very aggressive and very vocal in their desires and intentions, not to mention their criticisms of Christians. We have so-called Catholic politicians who make a show out of going to church, yet clearly promote deviant behaviors by their words and actions. More of us must speak out and not be afraid to do so. Society is falling apart and it is up to us all to put it back together again.

Thomas claims he is catholic. This shows that America has many such "catholics" who do not know anything about catholicism. I feel pity os these gentlemen who never care to read, learn , think. They are blind and they think that only food and sex are the only requirement for a good life.
This is the beginning of demolition of western civilization. Muslims are slowly taking over and things will be different in the future. At least Islam will be for marriage and not for premarital sex or.gav marriage. May God's plan be done

Tim, Thank you for your post. You are an example of what is wrong in our Catholic Church. There are many of you among the clergy AND there are far more Liberal activist enablers among the Bishops and clery. I am willing to bet that everyone around you, including your Bishop, knows who and what you are and they encourage you to be who and what you are. Our nation's ills will continue as long as the majority of the Bishops and clergy who are like you and enable you are still in the church.

Scripture is clear that homosexuality is a sin and that God does not like it. But, wait a minute, exactly why doesn't God like it? I mean he must have a reason, right? In fact, there is a good reason. Whether we want to admit it or not, the sad truth is that homosexuals TEND TO live short, troubled, unhealthy lives. In other words, homosexuality harms people who engage in it and since God loves us he doesn't want us to be harmed. No parent would want to see their child engaging in harmful activity. Here is one example of how homosexuality harms us: Before AIDS homosexual men had an average life expectancy of only 48 years. Since AIDS it has decreased to only 38!!!! There's a variety of reasons for this, but one of them is not Christian persecution. Understanding this, if your child had a same sex attraction, would you not be concerned and speak to him? He may or may not listen, but a good parent would certainly try. Should God also not try to warn us of the dangers by speaking through the scriptures? Click on this link and scroll down to the question: "What does scienctific eveidence show about homosexuality?" This article is well foot noted and sites many different sources backing the statements made: My heart goes out to anyone who has to wrestle with a same sex attraction just like it would go out to a person who has to deal with a substance abuse problem. They are all sins because they harm us. Everyone needs to pray for homosexuals just like you would for any other sinner.

Kevin, anyone who devotes themselves wholly to Christ will do as He commands and teach others to do the same. "Father" Tim is not, by his own admission. So, we could question his "whole devotion" to Christ. Priests are not allowed to teach anything contrary to what the Church teaches. They are supposed to be servants of the Church. In speaking as he does he is misrepresenting Christ and that is a grave offense against truth. He is introducing and furthering division within the body of Christ, the Church. Christ would not do that. In addition, it is a mandate for us to admonish the sinner. Christ commands it and in love we must do it for their sakes as well as ours. This is not an issue of taking a splinter out of another's eye while we have a log in ours. We are not judging or condemning another's soul to hell but rather we are seeing sinful behavior and calling that person to repentance so that they might be healed and saved. This is love in action and we are mandated to do it. 1Tim 5:20.
