Catholic Charities Forced to Shut Down Services around the Country Comments

Civil union laws springing up around the country are not about equality or freedom or love. We know this because the secular state is using these laws to force the Catholic Church to violate its beliefs or shut down its services. Thus, it seems that these laws are hostile, that they are an early sign of state aggression against the Church and anyone who stands in the state's way. I hope and pray that Catholics have the courage to stand up to ... Continue Reading

"xine" - There was no choice. The law directly prevents the religious organizations from denying adoption services to those in homosexual unions. In this case, the Government is restricting religious freedom. The Church must back out, not because it does not choose to help place children, but because it refuses to be forced into the evil of placing an innocent child in the custody of persons who have gravely disordered life styles which conflict directly with Christian beliefs and with Natural Law (which prohibits copulation between same-gendered animals). To love a child is to raise the child to be as normal as possible in a normal, safe environment while also being tolerant of those who live with a homsexual tendency, even though it is a disorder, but while not condoning homosexual "intercourse" which is disordered. The Church does not hate homosexuals; but it does recognize that homosexual unions are not an acceptable "place" for an innocent child to be placed.

Xine, why not let the Catholic Church adhere to its beliefs of not offering adoption to same sex couples? Aren't there other adoption agencies without such beliefs that a same sex couple can go to? Why is it necessary to force the homosexual agenda on everyone? This does not look like "freedom" to me. It looks like a movement to force everyone to adhere to your beliefs.

Catholic Charties is making a CHOICE to stop handling adoptions...no one has "forced" them. Adoption laws are just that, laws of the state government, not the church. If CC wants to delve into social areas governed by the laws of their respective state, then they need to abide by these laws. End of story.

Seems to me a very un-catholic (un-christian) thing to deny a child a true home, based upon your organized religions inability to keep pace with the rest of the world, and interpret it's own text (yeah, yeah there's something in there about men not lying with men...but I also think there are some rules about vanity, wrath, greed, lust, charity, and not wearing clothing made of leather that the 'church' might want to try out first). just sayin.

Seems that if Catholic Social Service is performing an adoption for Catholics that Catholic values should be respected. Where religious beliefs are different than civil why are catholic agencies force to do something that is against their beliefs. Guess that is why they are getting out of the adoption referal service. This is a real shame.
Maybe these agencies should focus on mothers keeping their children in a safe envirnment. We need a constitutional amendment that defines marriage as a husband and wife which is to say a man and a woman who are married.

It is sad that others want the Church to go against its own religious beliefs. I am happy to know that the Church is not putting itself in a position to violate the God's will. Our religious beliefs are not man-made, but given to us by God. Therefore, we cannot change them.

Which political party is behind all of this? One thing is for certain, it is not the republican party. The Cathoic bishops have aligned themselves with the democratic party for years and now the fruit of these seeds is being harversted by the gay community. Once the Catholic Bishops stand up and call it what it is "the attack on chrisitianity" then when can get somewhere. First order of business, vote for conservative republicans or soon you will be asking yourself, "how did I let this happen?"

I agree with what the author has to say about the homosexual agenda which uses our groups such as the boy scouts and others, as well as the Catholic Church to display their banners of intolerance. When will people get a clue? All they have to do is yell intolerance and other such words, and people back down. Now is the time, way past due, for each and every Catholic and other thinking person to rise up, and speak truth. All of our liberties in this country are at stake. There are ways for them to do what they want. Their liberty is not at stake. Ours is. We have the right to determine what is acceptable in our own groups and our Church cannot change what God has given us in His law. They are trampling upon our rights, plain and simply. We are allowing it by not voicing our truth.

I understand why CC is doing what they do, but now is there no alternative for adoption? Seems like we retreated without a fight. Seems to me that adoptive services are better if we are a participant than if we just shut our doors. At least be willing to fight.

The Church will always be able to reach out to the poor. If this door is closed to Her, another door will open. I am so grateful that so many of the leaders of our beloved Church are not giving in and compromising the Truth.

    She will prevail.
