They Say Marriage is a Dying Institution: What's Really Dying is Love Comments
The pronouncement came from actress Cameron Diaz and psychiatrist Dr. Keith Ablow last week: marriage is a dying institution. Dr. Ablow blames its demise on government, contraception, disappearing passion and the mockery of divorce. What he never mentions is Love. Marriage will only die if we give up the struggle of love. Thank you Jennifer for a dose of the truth. Great nations that don't value strong social institutions like the family and choose pleasure over hard work become mediocre nations. Churches that don't preach love as expertly defined by St. Paul become irrelevant. We are in danger of losing our once great nation and once strong Church because the people of both have been corrupted by the pursuit of pleasure. But, we will enjoy our iPhones and iPods as we travel the road to mediocrity, ceding leadership to those who value truth over comfort.
Looks like Dr. Ablow is a prime candidate to be one of Obama's czars - his views are that extreme. On a serious note, the Catholic Church is the only organization on earth that is standing firm on all major social issues: abortion, marriage, artificial contraception, divorce, and euthanasia. The negative impact of all these things is plain as day when you consider the plummeting birth rates in Western Europe, Japan, South Korea, Eastern Europe, Canada, the USA, and the rest of the world. Western Europe cannot replace it's current population because its birth rates have become so low. It shouldn't be any great surprise that human beings will take the easy way out when given a chance: indulging in pleasure and shirking responsibility. God help us.
We need to pray for more vocations to the married life too,not just the priesthood. All the divorces cause scandal to the married life.I saw and still see plenty of uglyness between couples that make me want to stay single.
Yet another Hollywood actress & spouse who think they are Gods. If people would just quit supporting these folks that make milions, to make movies, then see how arrogant they can be. God Bless our World, as obviously, we still do not get it.
Thank you.
You've given me courage x
Wonderful article. It brings the turh home - but then no one likes the truth.
God's plan for Adam and Eve was Seth, not a blame game ending in divorce.
Great article and well written. The Holy Sacrament of Marriage has been under assault for centuries since the Protestant Revolution. Today, we have a priest out of Fresno, California who was openly supporting Gay Marriage. I still hear nothing from the pulpit defending marriage. Is it any wonder why marriage is under seige.
Most disturbing article I have read lately.
How sad; these two "experts" haven't got a clue! I sure hope and pray St. Paul's "Ode to Love" is what's being taught and discussed in every Catholic High School. (Our young people certainly won't learn about it from our culture!)
