The president of Al-Azhar, an Egyptian university, Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, along with the leading members of the Islamic Research Academy, announced Thursday they are breaking off dialogue with the Vatican in response to Pope Benedict XVI's criticism of Muslim violence against Christians. That is a brilliant response Lilian! You got it! Why should christians bow down to criminal behaviour that IS a direct commandment from a mere human being-muhammad- a man who was NOT in any way NOT even a very nice, peaceful, or trustworthy person. He clearly invented islam to serve is own greed, lust for wimen, money, and achieve ABSOLUTE power. It is disgraceful that ANY human being at any time should have his life, conscience and very freedom dictated, mutilated and even killed because of the false "teachings" of a confessed DEAD charlatan!Christiand should leave in peace with everybody , including muslims, but peace, justice is a two way street, not a DIKTAT imposed by muslims on everybody else.

On a lighter vein, if they keep running away from discussing faith through reasoning, Catholics may have to send in a bunch of Exorcists to clear their clogged minds and prepare a way for a meaningful dialogue.

Hey, good people, wake up. The Muslims believe theirs is the only Religion. They call all other religions, particularly, The Catholics infidels and kafirs. Their religion encourages, indeed compels them, to annihilate all infidels and kafirs and Islamalize the whole world. Any dialogue they purport hold with any Christian Religion and especially with the Catholics, is pure hypocrisy. The word "jihad" - their Creed - means oppression, murder, destruction and total annihilation of all other Religions. The insidious spread of the Islamization is growing very rapidly right under our noses. Here in our country, they are buying land, especially where Christian Churches are build and having them demolished at night to erect their Mosques. They have infliltrated every nook and corner of this country where you will find Muslims who cannot speak either English or Swahili and you wonder where they came from. The terrorists groups of Al Quaeda and Al Shaabab from the lawless Somalia have taken over the Capital of Kenya and are also to be found in every Town and Village all over the country. Let us wake up and defend our Faith. God bless you Pope Benedict XVI for rising up to the occasion and defending us.

    Dear Graeme,

You have clearly no idea of what you have mentioned. I have been born and brought up and now working in a Middle Eastern country and I know what I am talking about.

From simple things you have mentioned, like how Islam spread (only through the use of violence), to your notion of how Muslims have condemned violence by other Muslims, I have to completely disagree with your comment.

Have you ever been in one of the Middle-Eastern country? If we were to treat Muslims, in the same manner, as they are treating non-Muslims in these Middle Eastern countries, then you would have some idea of what you were saying.

In the Europe, there is a huge hue and cry over veils for Muslim women being banned, whereas in Saudi Arabia, no woman is allowed to venture out (at all), except covered in full length black clothing (which even covers the face and absolutely exposes no skin). This is not just for Muslim women, but all women. In Saudi Arabia, women are not even allowed to travel in a car, with any man, except their husband or immediate family (like Father / Brother), and women are not allowed to drive a car in Saudi Arabia!

In Saudi Arabia, they issue a different labour card (like an immigration card) for Muslim expatriates and non-Muslim expatriates and whenever you want anything done (in a Government office), they first ask for your labour card and depending on what colour (Muslims have green and non-Muslims yellow), they would treat you (well, if its green and completely disregard you, if its not green).

You are not allowed to carry a Bible or any non-Islamic religious object into Saudi Arabia! If they find you carrying a Bible with you, they will confiscate it. Can you imagine, if we had banned Quran in Europe and all other non-Islamic states? If we didn't permit to build mosques in a country, as in Saudi Arabia, where there are no Churches permitted to be built (except in US Army barracks)?

Dear Graeme, I'm presuming you have converted recently to Islam, may GOD truly help you to see the Truth, don't shun the Truth.

What the Pope has said is not even half of the story and Muslims feel offended?? If they consider it to be an internal affair, why should they be bothered about other nations, treating Muslims? I think they should think that GOD is not dead, but alive and well and watches and sees everything! GOD is fair, never blind like Islam.

    GOD Bless!

Andrew: "Civilized society will let them choose whether it comes from within or without".......I think they made that choice for themselves the day that they flew those planes into the World Trade Center Towers; THEY are the ones who chose to take that decision OUTSIDE of their own realm of influence. How quickly should we forget????????

Maybe the Pope can send Rick Warren back over there, now theres a guy who knows how to get along with the muslims. The Vatican needs to stop anyone involved in the "foreign interference in Arab affairs". Clearly, they never do that to any one any where.

I pray for Christ's justice to defend his church and rebuke those who call Christ and his servants enemies.

Graeme, I do not understand your preaching about the goodness of Islam as surpassing that of Christianity. Christianity has not been corrupted to the extent that it should succumb to any form of Islam. Without the advent of Christianity, Mohammed would not have had any basis for his fabricated religion. He heard the gospel of Christianity like other people, but instead of converting, he became jealous and wanted to be what he was not. Ludicrously, all his dictations came from Angel Gabriel -- the angel who also told him to marry a six-year-old girl in addition to his other wives. Muslims who do not want to dialogue with the Pope know how embarrasing the truth about the religion and the founder is. They have, since the founding of the religion, been conflictive and opposed to dialogue. You claim that Our Lady blesses the moslems a great deal. Well, if you were a mother, and those who love you are committed to spilling the blood of your only son's friends and followers, I do not know what relationship you can claim to have with your only son. Yes, Our Lady visited Egypt, but that has not stopped the Muslims from killing the Copts in that country. While there are several churches in honor of Lady, I do not know of any Mosque that is known and honored for the visitation of Our Lady. With subtlety, you want us equate Islam with Christianity because we are serving one God. If that were the case, Mohammed would have converted and also converted others to Christianity. There is no reason, whatsoever, to compare the teachings of Our Lord Jesus Christ to the absurd dictations of Mohammed, a mere human being. What is sad is that many Christians, including you, do not see any reason to guide jealously, the great light Our Lord Jesus Christ has brought into our lives and the entire world, but quickly ready to mingle it with anything that comes their way. You seem to be more interested in where we can live peacefully with Moslems, even when only the contrary can be attested to since the 7th century. Long live Pope Benedict XVI for he has been right from the outset about Islam. Christianity is what it is; what looks like it should not be confused with it.

Many writers here have asked where the condemnation is from the Islamic community for the recent attacks on Christians, and indeed any other attacks. Has anyone looked for any Muslim opinions on the Internet? Do we think that our mainstream news would waste their time in defusing a hot story? The fact is, Muslims HAVE condemned the attacks and expressed concern. Please visit: http://www.asianews.it/news-en/Kuwaiti-and-Saudi-intellectuals-condemn-attacks-on-Christians-20469.html and http://www.qantara.de/webcom/show_article.php?pwcn=741_115&wc_c=476&wc_id=1445 and for condemnation for a different attack in Pakistan see: http://www.islamopediaonline.org/fatwa/condemnation-political-violence-against-christians-gorja-city-punjab-pakistan . It is very sad that our two communities, which can and do co-exist peacefully in many places, can experience these problems. The travel writer, William Dalrymple, has some interesting things to say (in “From the Holy Mountain”) about the striking similarity between the forms of worship of the Eastern Christian communities, who preserve their ancient Christian traditions, and those of Muslims, even saying that "if a monk from sixth century Byzantium were to come back today it is probable that he would find much more that was familiar in the practices and beliefs of a modern Muslim Sufi than he would with, say, a contemporary American Evangelical" and that "the greatest and most subtle theologian of the early church, St. John Damascene, was convinced that Islam was at root not a separate religion, but instead a form of Christianity … If a theologian of the stature of John Damascene was able to regard Islam as a new- if heretical- form of Christianity, it helps to explain how Islam was able to convert so much of the Middle Eastern population in so short a time, even though Christianity remained the majority religion until the time of the Crusades." He goes on to describe how Muslims and Christians pray together at Mass in the church of Our Lady of Seidnaya in Syria: "I remarked on the number of Muslims in the congregation and asked: was it at all unusual? 'The Muslims come here because they want babies,' said the nun simply. 'Our Lady has shown her power and blessed many of the Muslims. The people started to talk about her and now more Muslims come here than Christians. If they ask for her she will be there.' (Complete article: http://www.travelintelligence.com/travel-writing/seidnaya ) I am reminded of the apparition of Our Lady at Zeitoun in Egypt, where Christians and Muslims prayed together: http://www.indefenseofthecross.com/zeitoun_egypt.htm . Regarding our Westernised Christianity, it would be well to remember that the Angel of Peace at Fatima 'Kneeling down, he bowed forward until his forehead touched the ground.' How reverent are we? Do we bear witness to God? Do we stop for the Angelus three times a day? I know that Satan would dearly love all religions to cause scandal to the world and fight each other, and his agents on earth are stirring things up for sure. May we ALL shelter with the Blessed Virgin and find peace.

Bill is right on everything, except about islam being a "religion pf peace"...however if he was being somehow sarcastic about that absurd claim, that's fine with me! Enough with islamofascist "moderate" bullying, lies, deception and REAL intrusive-aggressive behaviour cummited BY muslims against christians, jews and other non-muslims.Muslim "moderates", if they were truly moderate, would never threathen, blakmail or intimidate others, including our Beloved Pope and Holy church.Christians should absolutely NEVER bow down to ANY demands coming from thugs and their "moderate" culprits.muslims want to forces into dhimminitude, NOT to dialogue with us as this ridiculous action clearly demonstrates. They want us to shut up in silence and submission when they cummit heinous satanic acts against our fellow christian brothers who are truly brutalised and severely discriminated just because they are ..christians!
