The president of Al-Azhar, an Egyptian university, Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, along with the leading members of the Islamic Research Academy, announced Thursday they are breaking off dialogue with the Vatican in response to Pope Benedict XVI's criticism of Muslim violence against Christians. I always thought that there must be some muslims who can distinguish between right and wrong but when you see leaders who want to stop intereligious dialogue because the pope mentioned the fact that Christians are being unfairly treated because they are a minority; I now feel that islam is an evil religion or its representatives are evil. I have muslims living among us here and are treated by us with respect and they go around without any fear of being hurt in any way

I am not a Catholic but I am a Christian. For those who know Jesus, you are my brother or sister, so we are family. I also belong to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. We serve the same God, but it is not the god of Mohammed (Allah in the Koran).

Much progress has been made between Protestant and Catholics so please believe that we share in the pain and injustice that was visited on the Coptic Christians in Alexandria. There are many around the world that are persecuted for their faith in the Lord Jesus. I respect and admire the Pope for being a voice for us all.

There is growing awareness and knowledge of Wahhabi Islam (the sect of Islam that promotes jihad and world domination). We need to speak out and we need to pray for all those who suffer. Write letters, talk about it, and PRAY.

Since the Pope are the leader of all catholic around the world, but at the same time Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb doesn't represent/ or and lead all Muslims in the Islamic world he might represent himself and some around him, real and true Muslims leaders he doesn't even knows them , so Dear Pope please don't bother and reply to mr elTayeb , he is just an employee at the government and there are many like him in each Islamic country. employees that are not the real leaders. we as Arabs and Catholics respect you, please next time ask one of smallest employees in Rome to reply to him not you personally, and we wish that a Vatican's Arabic speaker interpret your speeches.

When Catholics talk of peace, we extend the peace of Christ, a peace that is sincere and unconditional. When muslim talk of peace, they mean a form a "sadaqah", a kind of magnanimous charity, towards someone they perceive as "inferior" to them. It is conditional. Al-Tayeb is the epitome of such mentality. He breaks off the "dialogue" because the muslim "sadaqah" has been "taken for granted". His perception of inter-faith dialogue is something of not much value because he doesnt see it as a sharing of common value but the muslims cannot advance their muslim agenda of world domination out of these dialogue. Interference into the "internal affairs" of Egypt is nothing but an affront. Al-Azhar is NOT a political entity but an educational institution. Condemning attacks on Christians by Christians is an act of reason, And in a dialogue, someone like Al-tayeb should have the backbone to withstand government pressure to justify the attacks on the Christian minorities and go deep into the sentiment of their dialogue partner, rather than brushing aside the legitimate Christian criticism of Muslim inaction in the face of injustice. His action speaks volume of his attitude. He was NEVER in the dialogue, with him, The Church has unwittingly entered into a monologue. Where the muslim side doing the speaking and expect the Catholic "partner" to listen and consent.
In case the western Catholics and Christian in general have any romantic ideas about the exotic Muslim east, Wake up. Muslims want to make "reverts" out of humanity,. The "Kalimah Allah" ( Word of God, Christ) came to change our human course from the wrong path to the right path, to turn away from human decadence and turn towards repentence and human rejuvenation . In making "reverts" of individuals the muslim propagators attempt to sabotage the way of the "Kalimah".. Dont be taken in by the Veil, the exotic arabesque mosques, the strange yet exotic prayers in an exotic language like arabic and the seemingly ancient prayer style that is supposed to be divinely inspired and unchanged since the beginning. Ask an Arab Catholic in the US you will probably realise their migration has something to do with Muslim violence back in their homeland that has turned against them.
Muslim constantly whine that the non-muslims, especially Christians and Jews, have consistently portray islam in a negative light.and is gripped by islamophobia . The truth of the matter is in Muslim lands Christians are portrayed in a worse light, and Christianophobia is manifestly imbued into the psych so much that their books are filled with hate for Christians, propagate mistrust towards Christians, their madrasahs teach nothing positive about the Christians, and their media messages about the Christian is without doubt hostile. While I am at the issue, have you ever wondered why "christians and Jews are the enemies" seems to dominate Muslim psyche ? Just read the Quran and you tell me what their Allah tells them, Their Allah commands them to eradicate the two communities and treat them with mistrust.. one wonders whether the spirit that dictated the contents of the book to their prophet is really a angelic being or something else that worked to usurp the work of the real , loving, forgiving, magnanimous and merciful Allah that conveyed HIS message of salvation through HIS divine and uncreated "Kalimah", the LOGOS , through the shedding of HIS precious blood on the cross to pay for our transgression. The door of Heaven is opened because of Allah's Divine Logos, not because of the dictation of an unknown spirit in a dark cave without any witness present. We Christian proclaim "Allah" is "Al-Akbar" because HE is the Creator, preserver and restorer of Life. Muslims Scream "Allah hu Akbar" when they want "Allah" to draw blood on their behalf, either that or they are about to spill blood on Allah's behalf. In our Catholic Faith, the Kalimah Allah" came to shed HIS blood so that we can all live, in ISlam, The kafirs ( Infidels )must shed their blood so that the muslims and their form of "Allah" can continue to live and exist. In Yesu Al-Mazih ( Yeshua/ Jesus the Messian) we Catholics touch God in human flesh. The Isa of Islam is a robotic prophet who repeats a formulaic response to Allah's questioning, along with ALL the robotic prophets as recorded in the dictation of the unknown spirit in an arabian cave.
Catholic and Muslim dialogue must continue. But the partners must be treated with respect and be free from political baggage, If not for anything, at least for a peaceful co-existence of communities of diverging view points.

As one of my previous comments was not posted, where I tried to clarify the misinterpretations of my first post in this forum, presumably because it was too long (sorry :) ) I would like to assure Lilian and Binoy that I am not a Muslim convert and I would never wish to equate Catholicism with Islam in any way. I would like only to say that we cannot demonize all Muslims and we must learn to get on together.
There was the Mideast Synod recently reported by Zenit, and the following information may be useful for the readers here:
http://www.zenit.org/article-31533?l=english This article suggests that the argument is probably a result of a translation issue from the Arab media – 'Father Greich said the meeting "shed light on Al-Jazeera's attempt to create problems between the Catholic Church and Egypt, and especially with Al-Azhar."' i.e. media accidentally or purposely creating trouble!
So all the people accusing all Muslims of being evil can blame Al-Jazeera, who are probably laughing their heads off.
http://www.zenit.org/article-31530?l=english This article is entitled "Mary Unites Christians and Muslims" and the title speaks for itself, but I will reassure Lilian with a quote: 'Q: "Have theological issues been discussed at this conference?" Father Saghbini: "There is no common dogmatic basis that is valid for Christians and Muslims together in order to deal with theological questions and the magisterium of the Church. However, what is possible is the common reflection about Mary. The Christian point of view is: Mary is the elected Virgin and Mother of God and we are venerating her and we are praying to her. She is the intercessor for us with Jesus Christ. The Muslim point of view is: Mary is a special woman and the best among the women."'
Finally, a quote from the Address of Patriarch Gregorios III at Christian-Muslim Congress (sorry, a link to Zenit does not exist yet, hopefully tomorrow?): 'Any failure and lack of success of our experience of living as Christians and Muslims together in the East will have a destructive effect on all possibilities for dialogue, and will be a bad harbinger of the fact that all dialogue among people, civilisations and religions in East and West, will be doomed to failure. So we shall have the following result: the East, symbol of plurality and dialogue becomes void of Christians. So the Arab East becomes Muslim without Christians. On the other hand, the West is considered Christian (even if only through baptism). This Christian West supports Israel, in its turn considered the enemy of Islam and Muslims. So the final, terrifying equation is this: the Christian West supports Israel and Jews, the enemies of Islam and Muslims! So Christian Europe is the enemy of Islam and Muslims! And that is precisely the great misfortune, the dark and terrifying future that awaits us! God grant it may not happen!' And he goes on, 'Having said this, I am speaking with unshakeable faith and conviction to my Christian brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, to my Muslim brothers and sisters, and remembering words that our dear President Dr. Bashar al-Assad said, explaining the relational dimensions between people, "In Syria, we are united. We are a natural model for society, for humanity, and for interreligious relations. We ought not only to provide a model for relations between religions and citizenry, but also do this for a more noble and universal reality - humanity!"'
I apologise for the length of this post, but I pray to God that it gets posted – there is much wisdom and humility here that needs to be widely published. It is okay to refer to Muslims as our brothers and sisters! We are all children of God!

I find it interesting that Muslims (and some of the posters here) expect Christians to turn the other check by ignoring the killing of innocent Christians by Muslims, and the bombing of Churches during services. If all Emams preached peace, there would be less support for terrorists. If Mosques were being bombed and innocent Muslims being killed there would be a huge outcry, if not war - since the Qur'an 2:191 teaches them to attack those who have attacked them. It is extremely rare for Muslims to stand up against terrorism perpetrated by their own people against infidels (non-believers in Muslim faith), including the killings and destruction at the World Trade Centers. Jihad is used in the Qur'an 41 times, many of which mean holy war.

Thank God for great souls like Margaret - I will pray with you; Ruben - very good to remind us all that this is a public forum, may God increase your wisdom, and John Albert Pagunsan - I pray that you can meet and see great-spirited Catholics and other peace-loving people in your life, so that you do not give up hope - but at the end of the day, I hope that God reveals Himself to you and that He can be the indestructible source of His hope and peace, which are so often clouded by those who claim to be His followers.
