Mark Wahlberg: 'The first thing I do each day is pray' Comments
In the modern world, we are told, religion is being pushed to the side. Church-going is down, cynicism is up, and old-fashioned Christianity is not so slowly going the way of the penny-farthing bicycle. And nowhere, we are told, is this more apparent than in Hollywood, land of the superficial, the catch-a-passing-trend, the every-man-for-himself. And then there is Mark Wahlberg. Continue Reading

Let us pray for our brother Mark that he may journey as we do on our path. We are all sinners and may he find the same peace we are looking for.
Its isnt easy and he knows this to. We are all sinners. Ive watched some of his movies and I have noticed a progression. Pray that it is a good one.
Pray for Mel Gibson to. He has stumbled and fell and hope he gets back up again with the Lord.
Mark Wahlberg's daily prayer is something we should all do. I am sure that the purpose of this article is to illustrate to the readers that this is an example for all of us to follow. Let us pray that Wahlberg's career present and future will be 180 degrees opposite of his beginnings.
Anyone who saw Boogie Nights would have to conclude that a life in adult films is sad and pathetic. It certainly didn't make it look like a wonderful lifestyle.
Remember what Jesus said about the two men in the temple. One told God how great it was that he wasn't a sinner. The other was so repentant, he dared not lift his head. Jesus favored one over the other, and it wasn't Mr. Righteously Perfect.
I agree that the descriptions of what he did and did not do were lacking. However, as is repeated throughout the Scriptures, from David through St. Augustine, and now even with the story of the "reversion" of Father Corapi, people like Wahlberg nhave a compelling story that could bring people back to the Church. And today, with the Kennedys, Kerrys, Pelosis, etc, Wahlberg looks pretty good.
Marky Mark Wahlberg was never a part of NKOTB, that would be his BIG brother Donnie Wahlberg. It is interesting to note that despite the rough upbringing and the choices he made, he is making his faith a priority and setting a good example for his kids to live their Catholic faith
I don't think anybody has said that we should not forgive Mark for his mistakes, nor have we said that an article should not be written, but rather the word choice saying, "rather cleverly sending up his beefcake reputation" is actually making him an object, and I must add, not 'Catholic'. Moreover, the 'journey' that some have written about is very nice, but as a Catholic website, should we not both but balanced and intellectually honest? This movie 'Boggie Nights' is being presented as a 'clever' way of setting up his Hollywood career. Instead of promoting this 'cleverness' it should be seen in the light of the truth, that this movie was degrading, to both Mark and the other actors, as well as the human person...
This actor's life has been a journey from the streets and gang life to prison life and on towards a life in films, culminating with what appears to be a deeply "Catholic" life. While most actors who were baptized Catholic leave the Church, Wahlberg came closer to his faith and credits his successes to his return to the Church. What's nor great about this story, which, hopefully, will be made into a film.
I read the first couple of paragraphs (the article was posted on the Catholic Message Board) and went back and added a positive reply on the message board.
I've gone back and read the whole article and can see where some could have misgivings. But as some have already commented, we can't really know where he is on his journey. If "The Fighter" is any indication he is a stepping in the right direction. It is so seldom we hear out of Hollywood the phrase "Being a Catholic is the most important aspect of my life".
Great Article! Gob bless Mark!
Thank you for this article. I loved it. Mark Wahlberg professed his love of the Church and how it has saved his life. To stand up and publicly share his Catholic faith...especially living in the Hollywood culture that he does...well I found it courageous. He will be challenged for it. Rather than be sceptical critics, let us pray for him and his family. For those of us who have also led imperfect lives but have been saved through the redeptive love of Christ....his story was welcome.
