The people at the top who are organizing small focus "group think" with the girls are "leading"/""fooling" the girls with ill advice with their hidden agendas only to claim that the girls developed or designed these ideas of their world.
Locally, Girl Scout troops are focused on serving their community, finding ways to make the world a better place, locally and globally. We learn and grow spiritually and have a lot of fun.
These bad seeds at the top of the organization, most of us, had no idea about this.
Those young girls at the UN meeting should never have been left alone, secluded into an exclusive audience for their sick political agenda. That is brainwashing and they have made sure that no responsible adults that do no support them could get in. Those bad seeds at the top are obviously up to no good. They just got caught... with their support of that brochure! And do not kid yourself... cash may not be given to support another organization like PP, but paying for their brochure is "indirectly" giving them money and support.
Yes, that cookie money does trickle up. Your annual $12 membership goes to GSUSA and all the materials bought at the shop, such as our books and patches and pins.. those profits go up. I'm sure there is money collected at council that has to be paid to the piper.
I would not condemn your local troops raising good girls. That is ignorant!
Local girl scout leaders are not poisoning ours and your daughters with this material.
Consider informing the leaders of this information instead and ask them to only sell homemade goods and services to raise funds for their activities, whether it be a camping trip or a community service endeavor. Your donations to a troop are not going to sex ed.
I am not saying I am going to stay with the Girl Scouts, however, I will be bringing this to the attention of all my families I serve as a leader and may suggest just being our own group.
I wish to see more current comments.

Yes, there is an alternative, it's American Heritage Girls. The Boy Scouts signed a memorandum of support with AHG, July 2009. BSA has never done that for the GS or any other all girl group.

Regardless of the validity of this story, as Catholics, we need to remember that GS holds a diversity stance which includes gays as leaders. And in 1993, the GS allows each girl the decision of saying "God" in their oath.

AHG and BSA do not allow gays as leaders. The BSA is always being taken to the courts by the ACLU. But the BSA believes in being "morally straight". In BSA a scout is also "reverent".

And in AHG's creed the girl promises, among 8 other things, to be "pure" and "reverent".

AHG's creed is "Building women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country."

AHG is in 38 states and 2 countries and they started just 15 years ago.

The woman who "supposedly" found the brochure after "hanging around outside" until the meeting was over is Sharon Slater - an activist who makes her living speaking for "pro-family" issues around the world. There is ZERO evidence or testimony from the people and girls present that this EVER happened! Sharon Slater claims to have found the brochures - that's it. This smells fishy. I doubt there is any truth to it. Wake up and stop believing everything you read folks!

PEOPLE, GET YOUR FACTS FROM THE SOURCE. GS hand out a PP brochure? Then it goes on to read PP handed out the brochure: which was it? Oh, you weren't there, so you wouldn't even know. This misleading article title even contradicts the "so called" facts within. Terrance McKeegan, shame on you for slandering an age old institution who still allows young women pray at meetings and encourages serving (their own) God as a part of the GS Law.

If any inappropriate materials were distributed, the GSUSA did not endorse it. Please read the response I received via email inquiry from GSUSA:

GSUSA does not provide any financial support to Planned Parenthood, nor do we have any national collaboration or relationship with that organization. We believe issues related to health and sexuality are private matters for girls and their families.

The Girl Scout organization, including local Councils, does not take a position on abortion or birth control, nor do we endorse or provide funding to organizations such that advocate on these issues.

Girl Scouts of the USA did attend and participate in the 54th Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations where girls were encouraged to take action on global issues concerning women and girls.
Our participation in the conference was recently subjected of numerous internet stories and blogs that are factually in accurate and troubling. The Girl Scout organization does not take a position on family planning. Here are the facts of that meeting:
    * The Girls Only Workshop was jointly hosted by Girl Scouts of the USA, UNICEF's Working Group on Girls, Girls Learn International and The Grail. This meeting was only open to girls and the participating sponsors.
    * Only seven adults were in the room at the time of the meeting, each representing one of the sponsors of the event. No one from Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute was in the room to report on the event.
    * 30 to 35 girls from across the world participated in this event. All teenagers.
    * The only document the girls were given was the document they were working on titled ("The Girls' Statement") No other documents were given to the girls as part of this event.
Our Mission in Girl Scouting is to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. We continue to be proud of our girls and look forward to showing the world what girls can do.

If this is true, it is an anomaly. If a poll were givien, I am curious, which do you think would win, entrusting your daughter with a girl scout troop or a Catholic Priest? The Girls Scouts are a wholesome entity providing outstanding leadership and fellowship opportunities for young girls. Julliette Gordon Low would be rolling in her grave if she read this article. Her family members were outstanding pioneers of our Country. There is a well-deserved pride with being a Girls Scout. Anyone trying to taint the Girl Scout reputation should be ashamed of themselves. Girls need wholesome outlets in this day and age and Girl Scouts provides such an enviornment for girls from all different backgrounds around the world. I am proud to have my daughter participate in the Girl Scouts of America!

I am so sorry to say that I knew where this was going several years ago, when my now 22 yr. old daughter was a Girl Scout. Thankfully, when we started homeschooling 3 of our children, one of the Mothers was a Girl Scout leader and with all of us being like-minded, we knew what we wanted for our daughters and there was no deviation into immoral or illicit behavior being taught. I had checked into books that Girl Scouts use and one of them, though I do not remember the title of the book was akin to the nature of this here topic. When our oldest daughter was in junior high, an alert leader (again one of the Mothers from school, then) told us that at the leader's mtg. she had recently attended, then, they were told to make plans to take the girls to Planned Parenthood and to bring a sack lunch along. It was revealed by our leader then, that parents were not to be completely informed about the plans for this "outing." I was deeply appreciative to have a Girl Scout leader such as this lady to be upfront with us!

This sickening stuff is expected from Planned Parenthood and the UN. Both are amoral as it gets. I would caustion folks to examine this further before making a judgement against the Girl Scouts of America. Perverts for decades have been trying their best to undermine and subvert the Boys Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. Remember the flack the Boy Scouts took for not allowing homosexuals in their organization? I hope the top office of the Girl Scouts (If there is one) would clear this up. No one yet has interviewed these Girl Scouts at the UN. Were these Planned Parenthood fakes? I hope this is cleared up.

My daughter's been in Girl Scouts for five years, and her troop, and I would dare to say the entire service unit, comprised of about a third of the counties in Texas, have never had an event of this nature, and troops are focused on serving God and community. I wish I knew where these scouts were based. Please don't make judgments about all Girl Scouts based on this small segment of the Girl Scout population. I can assure you this is not typical of the organization, at least here in the U.S.
