If Kennedy's belief's don't correspond with the church's, how can he square that with himself? WE don't pick and choose what God commands. WE elect our officials and WE decide what media outlet's we watch, your decision on both have consequences.

@ Aggie: "This country was founded on Christian principles."

No it was not. It was founded on Democratic principles. Read your Thomas Jefferson, and learn.

I applaud the governor as a man of faith and courage. What people fail to realize is that same sex marriage is just the tip of the iceberg. The homosexual agenda has many other objectives. Did anyone read the article on safe school czar Kevin Jennings? He is an open homosexual who has a list of "approved reading materials" for school kids that is obscene and deplorable. I followed the link and read the samples. Who in their right mind would think it's OK for impressionable kids to read that stuff? Is this the direction we want to go?

I don't have anything against gay people and would defend them if someone were to hassle them. But, this homosexual agenda must be stopped.

Every religious denomination does have its say in government affairs - through its individual members. No one is obligated to be a member of any religious organization in America - so obviously our constitutional protections work. However, don't cloud the issue by then taking the illogical step that if no one is compelled to be part of any religion, then religious people shouldn't be part of the political process? That makes no sense, and the fact that religious people in this country voice their objections, is not only right for them to do so, be it is specifically protected in the 1st Amendment under our freedom to practice or religion and to assemble.

Right and wrong is not only a Catholic Dogma, it is also for all people who have sense of righteousness. Muslim, Hindu, Budhist and other Christians do the right thing as their consciense dictates.
Sex between two person of the same sex is not normal, no animals do it, even the wildest of them all. And scientists say we are the highest form of animal? Prove it!
And only through the common sense of humanity can that be proven, not by secular foolishness.
Thank you Gov. Carcieri. Thank God some politicians are finally turning around and standing up for the Church.

There is no such thing as a constitutional "separation of Church and State"? Thomas Jefferson was asked by the Dansberry Baptist Association which church would be the State Church of the land. His response was that there wouldd be no State Church, that all Americans would have the freedom of religion. Unfortunately, the Secularists have tried to equate there form of "Separation of Church and state" with freedom from religion. This is error. If the Catholic church attempted to make itself the State Church of America, that would be what Thomas Jefferson was talking about.

    Max and Ronald:

There is no constitutional separation of church and state other than the state cannot officially declare a national religion. The comment about "separation of church and state" came from a letter from Thomas Jefferson to a Baptist group.

Every person and entity in America has the right to mingle in political affairs, and that includes the Catholic Church. The Christ-given right of the Church is to give moral direction to its followers. In the areas of gay marriage and abortion it is obligated to tell its members what is right and wrong. If politicians so happen to be members of the Church, they are obligated to uphold the teachings in private and public life. A Catholic does not stop being such when they go to work anymore than a Republican or Democrat when they go to mass.

It is up to the politician to decide if they are or are not a Catholic. If they are they must abide by Church teachings, if they aren't then they can do as they please.

Can you even read English and understand it? If so, you have to know that your comments are, to put it charitably, off the wall.

This country was founded on Christian principles. The bible Christians believe condemn homosexual activities. Bishop Tobin was "not" deciding what the law of the land, mind you. He was simply reminding Pat Kennedy his religious 'identity' and the teachings of christ. Obviously, Patrick has issues with Bible teaching. In which case, he has an option to 'leave' the church & the bible he disagrees with. It puzzles me why he wants to be considered a Catholic or Christian while disagreeing with the Bible teaching. Christians do not condemn the sinners (gay/lesbian), but the "acts"

Correction--We place GOD over all. God has ALL authority, yesterday, today, and forever. The country also was not founded on the belief that Catholics cannot participate in the democratic process. God Love you Max
