'This development has caused me great sorrow, resulting in bouts of insomnia and at times a crippling physical fatigue.'
These are the symptoms of major depression which is a serious medical disorder characterized by chemical imbalance in the brain. Christians are no more immune to this disease process than they are to heart disease or cancer.
Depression incomprehensively engulfs one's outlook into darkness and treatment is needed for those suffering in its grip. The good news is that it is conquerable, with recovery made all the more sweet when aligned with the mysteries of our faith. May Jesus Christ indeed be praised
The USCCB's campaign for Year of the Priest included a very simple and easy to remember slogan, P.E.A.K.
P-pray for priests, E-encourage priestly vocation, A-affirm our priests/bishops, and K-increase our knowledge of priestly role and the importance of it.
Bishop Martino's resignation is a reminder for the faithful to step up the prayers and affirmation for our clergy. They can not go at it alone.
As Dc Fournier mentioned earlier, priests and bishops need our support to tirelessly carry out the teachings of the Church.
