   Actually the bill doesn't say what this article claims. All it says is that people should let their wishes be known to their doctor so it is on record. My mother and I have both done this so there is no question of our wishes when we become incapacitated.

   I went to H.R. 3200 Section 1233 and read it and do not like it. If you just glance through the H.R. 3200 you will find fines etc galore. Taxpayer money should not fund abortion. The first thing a state or government cuts when money is short is funding for the poor in this case they could cut money for health care if this bill goes through and we will be in a worser fix too since this county is in heavy debt. All in all it is a bill promoting murder. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to voice my opinion. I hope this country will stay free for a long time.

   For those who want to read the text referenced here, it is Sec. 1233 of H.R. 3200, ADVANCE CARE PLANNING CONSULTATION. Available as a full text at thomas.loc.gov. While it of course does not mention euthanasia, it does mandate a once-every-five-years consultation on options and plans, including those related to nutrition and hydration, using government and "stakeholder" developed information on end-of life-options. Or more often, at the government's discretion.
   
   I find the image of an elderly person, possibly ill or not understanding, called in to discuss their treatment options with the government highly disturbing, to say the least.

   We may not find the word "euthanasia" in the proposed healthcare reform legislation, just as "abortion" is always guised as "reproductive services." But what are the inevitable consequences of the proposed healthcare rationing? May I recommend reading the following as a primer:

   Yes, we should all read the healthcare reform legislation as proposed. But for all Catholics, before we proceed towards expressing an informed opinion and contact our legislators to inform them of our opinions, we should all read the Holy Father’s latest encyclical, “Charity in Truth.” Additionally, any Catholic who finds him or herself accepting the entire Democratic party platform--which unequivocably supports and works for abortion on demand globally—because that party’s platform seems to support the goals of “Catholic Social Teaching” on the whole, must especially read the writings of Benedict XVI—and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. At the heart of true Catholic Social Teaching is the dignity and good of every human person. That is why we can never brush aside abortion—the taking of the most innocent human life—for the sake of what seems to be a platform that assists the poor. The truth is that this party wants to “help” the poor by ensuring that there will be fewer and fewer poor—not through any true redistribution of wealth or other reform—but through abortion!
   
   While we have closed the Year of St. Paul, let us never close our Bibles; let us never neglect to read the words God gave the Church for all time through Paul’s letters. As he exhorted the Ephesians,

   my fellow Catholics, President Obama is very clear and focused on what he wants to achieve. Forget his dramatic rhetoric. His main agenda is to spread abortion worldwide,particularly in Africa and third world countries,see that euthanasia finds it way into Law books and endeavour to eliminate the poor who are a drain to the developed world.
   
   The whole Catholic fratenity MUST RISE UP AS ONE and oppose this President in these areas and the embryonic stem-cell experiments which he supports. He is anti-life through and through. Let us read the signs of times - how did this man rise into the highest political Office in the only remaining super power in the world? Sincererly ask yourself, who is he? what are his roots? what ethics did he learn as he grew up from a toddler to a young adult? Answer, no one knows. He was just sprung upon us from nowhere, acquired a larger than life personality, mesmerised the whole world, sent America into an euphoric spin and in that dazed state, they elected him their President!! Without being offensive, try and study the character of his father's people and the current problems facing Kenya after his cousing adamantly refused to accept he had lost an election. He then proceeded to unleashed the worst tribal violence he had been planning since 2005 for the trible he had turned the whole country against. This led to the death of over 3,000 people, destruction of property of that tribe had over 600,000 of them chased from their own homes, had their properties burned down,or looted,and they now live in deplorable conditions as Internally Displaced People. In the City of Nairobi, they were chased from their houses which up to this day are occupied by Obama's cousing people by force. His cousin never feels he caused all these sufferings. So my dear Americans, before you know what you did, your country will be thrown into so such misery you will never know how you could have been so blind not to have interrogated the roots of this who mesmerised you so completely that it is only now you are beginning to see a bit of who and what he is. But have faith. God will win in the end. No one plans annihilation of His most vulnerable and defenceless children, the uborn, the infirm and the aged and gets very far. Fight on All you people of goodwill. Demonstrate against his anti-people Bills and ensure they are defeated. Join the Catholics of America and the world, as we oppose President Obama with the Power of the Holy Spirit. He must be stopped.

    Tim,
    First of all it is not a given that Pres Obama plans match up with "All the rest of Catholic Social Teaching. And even if it did. Perhaps some of Mussolini's and Hitler's and Stalin's policy. They just had a few small life issues to contend with.
    The fact is there can be no possible right to killing an unborn a baby but Catholics in good conscience can debate about how best to tackle poverty, violence, the environment etc.
