Catholic News Agency

WHO ARE WE?

ACI Prensa is the Catholic press agency in Latin America. It was founded in Lima, Peru, in 1980 by Fr. Adalbert Marie Mohm (1986).

The German missionary's desire was to provide a steady flow of Catholic news to the secular media and to end-users in order to increase the visibility to the Catholic Church in the public square and help in its mission.

Since 1982, ACI Prensa has been recognized by the Peruvian state as a nonprofit educational association, linked to the Catholic Church.

ACI Prensa has also been recognized as a Catholic news agency by:
  • The National Commission of Social Communications (CONAMCOS) of the Peruvian Bishops Conference.
  • The Social Communications Department (DECOS) of the Latin American Bishops Council (CELAM).
  • The Vatican's Pontifical Commission for Social Communications.
Since 1989, ACI Prensa has also been member of the International Federation of Catholic Agencies (FIAC).

In 1986, ACI Prensa's board of directors appointed Mr. Alejandro Bermudez, a Peruvian journalist, as its editor-in-chief. Mr. Bermudez is a graduate in Social Communications at the University of Lima. He is also the Latin American correspondent for Our Sunday Visitor, the National Catholic Register and the Spanish magazine Razon y Fe.

WHAT DO WE DO?

ACI Prensa (www.aciprensa.com) is currently the largest provider of Catholic news in Spanish and Portuguese.

News generated in ACI Prensa's newsrooms are published in Spanish on www.aciprensa.com, the largest Spanish Catholic site on the Web. It is also published on our Portuguese-language Web site www.acidigital.com.

Some 40 million potential listeners receive the news on the airwaves of EWTN's Radio Catolica Mundial.

ACI Prensa is also translating the Catholic Encyclopedia into Spanish and providing it for free at www.enciclopediacatolica.com.

ACI Prensa's latest initiative is the Catholic News Agency (CNA), aimed at serving the English-speaking Catholic audience with:
  • News from the Holy Father and the Holy See
  • News from the Catholic Church in the Americas
  • Relevant religious news affecting Christians around the globe
  • News related to life and family issues
